BRENDON
has experience in both the private sector as well as the public sector. As an Architectural student in the United States, he joined an international competition organized by the American Institute of Architects, Student Chapter for a Cultural Exchange Centre in Beijing and won first place among entries from 212 schools in and outside the US. As an Architectural intern with Don Genasci Architects in Oregon, US, he was part of a design team that was invited for a closed design competition involving 7 US firms for a Children’s Library in West Berlin.After obtaining his professional degree in 1989, he served his National Service as an Army Lieutenant before joining the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) in 1992. As an Architect with the URA, he had the opportunity to work on the new Parliament House with Mr Liu Thai Ker.
In 1994, he joined Nikken Sekkei International, the local branch of the largest Architectural Firm in the world, Nikken Sekkei, Tokyo, where he spent the next 8 years on numerous challenging competitions and projects. Among the projects that he designed and executed were the Bedok Town Centre upgrading where the then relatively new architectural system of tensile membrane structures were used throughout the project extensively. He was also the project designer and design manager for the 300 room Club Med Ria Bintan Resort Hotel for which he was stationed in Indonesia 2 days a week to design manage an immensely challenging project on an equally challenging hill site. On a project management level, he was also involved in the Rhema Centre and later the luxury condominium, Avalon.
Brendon has also had much exposure in both local and international competitions. As a design team leader, he was instrumental in winning the international competition for the Beijing Intercontinental Hotel as well as the local competition for the Headquarters Building for the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Singapore which he also designed and project managed to completion.
