PHILOSOPHY
DESIGN
Design, like our environment, is a whole entity made up of varied components inter-related within a complex structure. Our role as designers is to understand these subtle relationships as each element within this structure is special, with its particular purpose and place.
We at HSI ARCH believe our role is to assist in providing our clients the competitive edge to fulfill their objectives. We know the difference good design can make. Good design is fundamental to social and mental well-being. It can raise morale and ensure that the end product remains relevant with time. Without good design, these same products can be easily overlooked.
Local knowledge is essential, but any design studio that does not present itself as being ‘world class’ will eventually be forced to compete solely on price; thereby selling itself short. Hence our philosophy: ‘Think Global, Act Local’.
SIMPLY COMPLEX
Inherent in each design are its multiple users and narratives. Intrinsic in world-class cities such as Paris and New York is a vibrancy that transcends their built environment. The challenge lies in presenting a simple and eloquent, yet adequate solution to a complex situation; a simplicity that gives order to a cacophony of programmatic overlaps.
AESTHETICS
Functionality and maintainability are fundamental requirements. Beyond that, good design gives pleasure for both the creator and the spectator. A poetic and aesthetic quality conveys values, culture and meaning. Design can be timeless and hence transcend the fashionable mood of the moment.
SPACE
Spaces have their own character with different features, focuses and views in and out. They provide physical and psychological comfort to the user. Well designed space captures the essence of a ‘place’. As such, a good spatial experience would remain in our memory for a long time.
LIGHT
Light has always been an essential element of great architecture. Together with shadow, it gives texture to surfaces, sculpts and gives focus to objects and even breathes life into a space. Architecture becomes as much a visual art as a tactile one.
ORDER
Similar to the choreographed movements of the ballerina or martial artist, order portrays strength in thought and exercised control. Clarity of structure and detail not only reveal the true beauty of materials and workmanship but also clearness of design thought.
